FBA Files Rural Digital Opportunity Fund Comments at FCC

March 27, 2020

Today, the Fiber Broadband Association filed comments at the FCC regarding the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund auction, which will commit more than $20 billion to connect rural Americans with high-speed broadband. The following statement can be attributed to Lisa R. Youngers, President and CEO of the Fiber Broadband Association:

“As FCC Chairman Pai has stated, the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) seeks to bring ‘better networks covering more Americans.’ Today, when Americans absolutely need to have broadband connectivity for distance learning, telework, and telehealth, that means making sure we give the unconnected access to gigabit networks wherever possible – and it means not taking a chance on funding networks that have not been proven to meet this benchmark. With that in mind, today, we filed comments at the FCC regarding the procedures for the RDOF auctions. We asked that the Commission to ensure applicants use proven, high-performance broadband networks and bid at the census block group level in the auction. We believe that these measures will ensure that rural Americans have access to the high-performance networks they need — key steps to bridging the rural digital divide.”
