FBA Statement on HEROES Act

May 18, 2020

On Friday, the House passed the HEROES Act, a fourth COVID-19 relief bill that includes billions for emergency broadband. The following statement about the act can be attributed to Lisa R. Youngers, President and CEO of the Fiber Broadband Association:

“We are pleased to see that broadband is included in this COVID relief bill since high-speed connectivity provides a literal lifeline to Americans during this pandemic for everything from telehealth to online learning to telework. For many years, the digital divide has created 'haves' and 'have nots' in our country and the HEROES Act offers a good start to bridging this divide and keeping Americans connected. The Fiber Broadband Association and our members stand ready to work with Congress to make fiber broadband – the critical infrastructure of 21st-century communications – a key part of the solution.”
