Boulder, Colo., is a step closer to building a public broadband fiber-optic network. The city plans to hold a public hearing the week of Aug. 5 to discuss financing 55 miles of "dark fiber" that will serve as the backbone of the network. That project is expected to cost about $20 million. City leaders have also approved $2.5 million to build fiber laterals that extend from the backbone.
