BT's infrastructure business, Openreach, has signed a long-term contract with ADTRAN to help build a nationwide fiber-optic system in the U.K. The goal of the project is to help BT Group limit its reliance on Huawei Technologies Co. for its fiber-optic network and meet national security rules. The move comes after the UK limited the amount of data that can be carried over Huawei's full-fiber and 5G equipment at 35%. Currently, Huawei makes up 44% of the U.K.’s full-fiber market. BT Group says complying the rule could cost it $500 million.
