The U.S. Department of Agriculture's ReConnect program has shown to favor rural Internet infrastructure projects that involve fiber-optics. Fifty out of 54 ReConnect awards are dedicated to pure fiber projects. The remaining four use fiber in various combinations with hybrid fiber coax, cellular, or point-to-point wireless. The ReConnect program provides grants and loans that can be used for rural broadband infrastructure projects. The largest project was awarded $48 million and the smallest was given $397,749.
