Loudoun County, Va., Communications Commission Chairman Tim Dennis says the county is prepared to close its broadband gap by extending fiber-optic connections to rural parts of the county. The county plans to run a fiber-optic cable loop that would be privately owned and managed. The loop is expected to reduce the distance Internet service providers would have to go to connect to other areas. Meanwhile, county officials eased rules on building new communications towers, which many residents rely on for wireless Internet service.
