A resolution has been approved by Louisiana lawmakers that established the Broadband High-Speed Internet Service Task Force. The goal of the task force is to explore ways to encourage high-speed Internet service in unserved or underserved parts of the state. Fiber-optic industry representatives say the state could take advantage of fiber-optic cable belonging to communities and electricity co-ops that is not being used. However, one obstacle to overcome is a law that does not allow private easements to be used for broadband technology.
