Smithville Communications and SCI REMC have begun building a fiber-optic project that will deliver high-speed broadband internet to residents and businesses in Monroe, and Owen Counties, Indiana. The first phase of the project will be completed in 2023 and will serve 3,400 residents and businesses in the region. This joint project will help both companies move forward in closing the digital divide in rural areas by providing high-speed, highly reliable fiber-based internet connectivity, said Darby McCarty, chairman and CEO of Smithville.
