When the Cameron Peak wildfire in Colorado threatened the Internet connections in Estes Park, John Cramer, network architect at Trailblazer Broadband, was forced to find a way to ensure the city stayed connected. A solution was found in Project Thor, a 481-mile fiber-optic line located in the western half of the state. However, reaching the Project Thor connection required Cramer to locate and connect to fiber optic lines owned by agencies, utilities and other companies. Cramer says cooperation with 16 other groups allowed the connection to Project Thor to be completed in a matter of days.
