Tasha Wheeler Named as FBA's Women in Fiber Spotlight Winner for March
March 29, 2021
What is your current occupation? –
Senior Program Manager-OSP-KGP CO.
How did you get here? What was your path?
I started in telecommunications super green 10 years ago with CenturyLink on the OSP team and helped manage 4 states, CO, NM, UT & AZ. My career grew as a project manager with great companies like Crown Castle (OSP), Nexius (Small Cell) and my greatest accomplishment KGP Co. It has been a decade of so much growth & always something new to learn, obstacles overcame and all in all an exciting roller coaster ride that always keeps me at the edge of my seat!
What is an accomplishment you are proud of?
I came into KGP Co. where Denver was brand new to the market and I had the opportunity of growing our team from the absolute beginning. Helping staff our incredible team & grow into the strongest markets for our company in less than a year was a privilege to be a part of much less lead. In less than 6 months our team went from 0 miles to 109 miles of fiber placed in our Denver market. My team’s hard work & accomplishments in such a small amount of time is what I am most proud of, they are the absolute best!
What is one thing industry related or not you learned in the last month?
Be patient, stay calm, it is okay if you feel like you are flying the plane while building it, you got this & this will pass! I learned to be able to pivot quickly while aiming at a moving target and overcoming each challenge day by day.
How do you define success?
Doing what you love every day & always staying challenged & recognized.
Who inspires you?
My children, they push me, motivate me and are the absolute reason I work so hard. I remind them hard work pays off and you can do anything your heart desires if you work hard at it, stay focused and are happy doing it! Make a difference in this world, even if its as small as growing a market in CO or taking over the world pinky & the brain style.
What is one piece of advice you would give to a woman starting a career in fiber, tech, or construction?
Is it predominately men absolutely, is there room for women absolutely. We may be a minority in this profession but our numbers are growing and we are a force to be reckoned with period! With companies hiring more amazing women, like KGP CO a women owned business we can close that gender diversity gap and empower women that this is a growing and amazing field fit for a lady as well.
