The Tennessee Department of Transportation has received an $11.2 million federal Infrastructure for Rebuilding America grant that will serve as partial funding for the I-40 Smart Fiber Project. That project will extend intelligent transportation system (ITS) technologies along Interstate 40 between Memphis and Nashville. The project will see the installation of 143 miles of fiber-optic cable and ITS devices. The project is also part of a larger effort to expand broadband and smart transportation infrastructure into rural parts of Tennessee.
