The Waterloo, Iowa, City Council has been asked to allocate bond funding for an $84,500 contract with Magellan Advisors to complete a feasibility study recommended by the Waterloo Telecommunications Utility Board. That study will focus on the possibility of the city building its own fiber-optic network. Supporters of the municipal network idea say it will be necessary to attract and retain businesses. City residents have also voiced their unhappiness with current Internet service providers operating in the city.
